"It really felt like I wasn’t looked at properly."

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Radiology (X-rays and Scans)

(as the patient),

I’ve been in so much pain for a few months now mainly my back and sides but also my lower tummy. I was back to doctors a couple of times about this and was then referred for an ultrasound. My appointment was at 7pm so I drank the 2 pints of water at 6 but was taken 20 minutes early. The person doing the ultrasound was pleasant but rushed the whole procedure so much I cried when I left.

I was hurried through to the room and was in the ultrasound room for no more than 5 minutes maximum. I’ve had an ultrasound before and it really felt like I wasn’t looked at properly at all and it was just a waste of time. Deeply disappointed as there was nobody else in the waiting room it just seemed like the radiologist had somewhere else they needed to be.

Dear Aho,

I'm so sorry your experience was so disappointing and rushed. This is certainly not the experience our staff or I find acceptable. I have shared your story with the management and ultrasound team and they have given me an update.

"I can only apologise if impression given was that of a rushed examination but would like to reassure the patient that would not be the intention.

I would like to reassure the patient concerned that all examinations are complete and not rushed. 5 minutes is often all that is required to get the necessary information although there may then be further time required after the patient has left for comparing images with previous scans or referring to clinical history and past reports".

By sharing your story we will ensure staff are more aware of the unintentional consequences on visiting patients making the experience more pleasant for others having this procedure.

thank you.
