"excellent service from Dunoon Paramedics"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service

(as a relative),

My wife accidentally overdosed on a Blood Pressure reducing medication causing her to collapse in the house, I called 999 and a wonderful Paramedic crew arrived very quickly.   Not only did the Paramedics give wonderful, compassionate care to my wife, but they also cared for me as I suffer Anxiety - they ensured I was kept up to date with what they were doing (most of the time) and what would happen next.   The only area I think could be improved slightly is that at one stage the ambulance had to pull over on the way to the hospital to try and get a drip into my wife - I was following the ambulance in my  car - the driver got out the ambulance and entered the ambulance via the back door, on his way into the back door he saw me in the car but did not explain why the ambulance had stopped - when I saw the ambulance rocking  my anxiety took over and I assumed the worst....as soon as the Paramedics heard me screaming outside the ambulance they immediately opened the back doors, invited me in and explained what was going on.

Good Afternoon JoFi,

I am sorry to hear that your wife had accidentally overdosed on her medication. That must have been very worrying for you and your wife as she collapsed. I am so glad that when you dialled 999 for assistance the help was with you quickly and the crew that showed up treated you and your wife in such a professional and caring manner.

It is easy to become overly focussed on a patient and, whilst the patient should have focus, there are times when the family require to be reassured and ultimately looked after also. I am pleased to read that this happened.

If you allow I would like to to pass on your comments to the crew involved and to their manager. If you want this to happen you can email me at alan.martin2@nhs.net and provide me with the date, time and address our crew attended and your wife name. I am confident that they will also reflect on the feedback you have provided also.

I hope that your wife is on the road to a full recovery and I wish you both all the very best.

Kind Regards

Alan
