Keyhole day surgery.

I was not informed of all the risks prior to surgery (inc risk due to c-sec), the notes on the consent form were illegible.

The hospital the waiting room was very dark and incredibly busy. We were shunted in like cattle and moved to a tiny room that didnt even have enough seats (I perched on a table so an elderly lady waiting for a hip replacement could sit comfortably).

The nurse who booked me in was lovely, but the 2 other staff I saw only cared about whether I'd signed a consent form. I was given a gown and socks and finally taken down for surgery @ 10.30am.

The assistant in the anaestetic room was exhausted, yawning, leaning over the counter top and open about the fact she was very tired..

Next thing I remember is being woken at 12:30pm by a lady in scrubs who told me "we nicked a blood vessel and had to open you up" I asked how much of a bleed and she said "only 100-200ml". I later learned that his was not my named consultant, nor did I see her again.

My blood pressure was very low and I was violently sick every time I sat up. I was put on fluids but the machine kept bugging and the bag was left empty for half the night.

During the night the 2 male staff chatted loudly for hours and then spent a noisy period trying to find a male patient who had dissapeared.

The following morning my blood pressure had improved slightly but I was in alot of pain, however the doctor didn't seem very concerned.

By 3pm I was eager to go home but it took a further 3hrs for a doctor to come see me. She was vague and didn't ask much.

I was discharge with clexain and no follow-up despite a huge amount of swelling and pain.

I rang PALS who put me through to the consultants secretary who tried to hide the fact I'd had internal bleeding due to trying to enter via old scar

3mths on Im still in pain and still have swelling, finally diagnosed incisional hernia and am waiting further surgery - at UHCW
