"Laboratory review"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (London)

We had given a sample of my son’s stool test for cal protectrin analysis and when I called the laboratory to find out if they had received the stool sample which I had personally delivered, as the first sample that I had dropped at the GP got misplaced between the GP and delivery to the hospital,a man from the lab answered the phone and told me that the sample had to be re submitted but would not tell me what had happened to the sample I had submitted. Instead of apologizing he had the audacity to laugh on the phone while talking to me and then put the phone down on me while I was still talking. He was very inconsiderate not realizing the patient had been suffering for a long time and waiting for these results so that further treatment could be done. How can staff in the hospital be so inconsiderate.

How can samples be misplaced twice!!

We are sorry that the response you got on phoning the laboratory was not helpful or sympathetic. Patients/parents would not normally make direct contact as this should go through the GP, however that does not excuse this behaviour. Without any details we are not able to investigate further, if you would like to discuss the situation please contact Robin Sanham, General Manager Pathology, on robin.sanham@nhs.net

kind regards
