A four night stay in Flaunden Ward after a total hip replacement was fine, apart from the overwhelming heat wave which was combated by many electric fans around the Ward and lots of drinking water available l! My only niggle now is that I was given no idea of how long I was to keep wearing the compression knee stockings and how long I should keep on the wound dressing.after I left hospital.
Surely these facts should have been written down on the 'My discharge from hospital' leaflet? I , in my elated state as I prepared to leave the Ward ,forgot to ask the charming nurse these details - but should I have needed to - shouldn't the answers be already written down? After ringing the ward a fortnight later I was told that I could have taken off the stockings the day after I left and the wound dressing should be attended to by my G.P.'s Practice Nurse at his surgery - not to be taken off by myself as I was wondering... Apart from this the operation went fine and I feel ok and I'm very grateful for all the hard work that your staff at Watford Flaunden Ward perform.
