"Accessing Test Results"

About: Arrowe Park Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

In early May, Having collapsed I was examined by paramedics and taken to Arrowe Park A&E Dept and admitted with a suspected heart murmur. I was released 24 hrs later with a bag containing the medication I had taken in to hospital and a Patient Discharge Summary which was given with no explanation, I received in the post  appointments for an echocardiogram for June and 10 days later a 24 hour ECG. I  attended both these appointments but this week I realised that I had received no results so, I contacted my doctors practice - they had no record of my tests let alone any results.

I contacted the Cardiovascular Dept who could not discuss it over the phone and referred me to the switchboard and the Secretary of the supposed Consultant that I was under but they had never heard of them. At some point in my 45 minute round-robin phone call someone insisted that the results are on the electronic record available to my Doctor. So 3 hours later I am again speaking to the Doctors Practice. The outcome of this was a letter from the Doctor to Arrow Park Hospital  to say that he was able to access my results for the echocardiogram but not the ECG and that since the tests had been asked for by this consultant it was the consultant's responsibility to advise me.

So now I am left with a potentially serious condition, having had expensive tests but nobody to discuss it with. The most comforting news I have had is from the lady who typed a letter to Arrowe Park, saying I think if it was something serious they would have been in touch with you. I have today hosted a GP who practices in a small town in northern Chile 6 hours drive away from the nearest large city and after discussing it with her I do wander whether I would have been better served by her and her colleagues

Update posted by masser (the patient)

Events have moved on since placing my story of frustration. My Oncologist has seen my records and contacted Cardio as HE wants another scan, so I have an appointment now generated and monitored by Oncology!
