"Frustrations with treatment plan"

About: Caithness General Hospital / General Medicine Raigmore Hospital

(as the patient),

In early 2010, I started to suffer from a range of symptoms for which a number of diseases could be the root cause.

I was sent for very basic tests to eliminate some of them and was diagnosed with a neurological condition. I am very annoyed & frustrated by the GP & Consultant's inability to help me with the condition they think it is. It has been going on for nearly 2 years and there has been no treatment found for me that will help with the pain, discomfort, inability to function, inability to walk far, inability to work, inability to sleep properly and to cope with the range of sysmptoms that I am experiencing. I think the symptoms are more like another couple of diseases for which there is a treatment plan. However, for my condition, they said there is no treatment plan, so it feels like they have sent me home to get on with it without any medication, help or support. The GP has offered me valium based sleeping tablets/antidepressants which I refused.

The symptoms are very like other diseases but I believe they have not put any other tests through because of the expense, not only of the tests but of the treatment plan, if it was actually revealed that a different disease is at work in my system.

I seem to have been left just to go home and suffer alone. The NHS could surely do a lot better that this for their patients!

Thank you for taking time to share your experience through Patient Opinion. NHS Highland has recently signed up to Patient Opinion because we are striving to give patient more ways of feeding back to us. We believe this will help us improve our services and patient experience.

I am really sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time, and as yet, we have not come up with a way of providing a treatment plan. It may well be that there is no easy answer but I will certainly look further into what you have fed back.

If you would like me to look into your specific case please get in touch. We also have a formal complaints process and I can help you pursue this route if that is a course of action that would be helpful. My contact details are maimie.thompson@nhs.net, 01463 70 4722.

Regards

Maimie
