I'm in my 40's and was infomed at consultancy that I required a THR due to osteoarthritis. This was such a shock and a huge decision for me to go ahead with the surgery option. I have been very active all my life and dedicated 23 years to a regular forces career, to know that my active life now required serious modification was depressing. The pain in my back and groin was now affecting my work, home and private life so I had no other choice.
Building up to the date of surgery my anxiety grew and I was very nervous. My letter arrived and I attended Stracathro hospital for my surgery early in the morning. My anxiety was through the roof as I had not met my surgeon and had many questions about the procedure and prosthetic type but it all seemed too late to ask questions or discuss now. I had to remain positive and put my faith in the professionals looking after me and from the start upon arrival the staff were brilliant! They made me feel at ease and helped hugely with my anxiety before the operation. The nurses, anaesthetist and surgeon answered what questions I had. The before, during and after care by all the teams during my stay was immense and I am extremely grateful.
I cannot thank everyone enough, everyone was thoroughly professional. I am now looking forward to my recovery and will remain positive. The start to that recovery is encouraged by everyone who helped me at Stracathro before, during and after my operation. Surgery is nerve racking for anyone but in for me Starcathro was such a good experience that I cannot think of anywhere better to have gone for my operation.
We are extremely fortunate to have this hospital in Angus.
"Such a good experience"
