"Lack of Basic Hygeine"

About: Airedale General Hospital

Three members of my family, including myself, have had occassion to use the public lavatory adjacent to Ward 4. On none of these times was there any soap available. Surely not acceptable in any lavatory, but a hospital???

When I told a member of nursing staff on ward I was visiting, received the reply that there was nothing that she could do, as it was the responsibility of an outside contractor!!!

Question for inclusion in a future episode of The Chase - how many diseases can be transmitted as a result of not washing your hands after going to the lavatory?

We are sorry to read that you have had such an unsatisfactory experience at our hospital. We have immediately addressed your concerns in the public toilet adjacent to ward 4, and would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention.

A more robust system for monitoring the cleanliness of the public toilets has been put in place. We would very much like the opportunity to discuss this with you further.

Please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01535 294019.
