"Don't bother seeing a different doctor if yours..."

About: Cowplain Family Practice

I was told to see my doctor as my blood tests needed to be discussed. My doctor wasn't there so saw another one. The doctor made me feel like I was wasting their time and that the blood tests shouldn't have even been ordered by my doctor in the first place. I asked if I should bother taking the medication I am on and basically said no because it wasn't doing anything because my blood test results in his eyes showed there was no problem! So why the hell had I been prescribed them in the first place then???

I actually cried when I got back in my car because it made me feel like what's the point in going there. I suffer from depression and anxiety and worry about wasting people's time and that's exactly how he made me feel. Now I don't know whether to even bother taking my medicine or bother going back there to see my normal gp. Thanks for making me feel like a waste of space!!

It is unfortunate that your own GP was unavailable when you visited the surgery on Monday. Our reception team are trained to always offer the patient an alternative appointment with their own GP if they are away from surgery.

This would be our usual procedure unless the patient indicates their reason to see a GP cannot wait until the GP returns.

Our policy of patients only seeing the doctor with whom they are registered has been implemented to ensure continuity of care for both GP and patient.

Unfortunately we cannot respond to the patient’s comments regarding the medication prescribed by their own GP as the NHS choices submission was made anonymously.

We are very sorry to hear that the patient had felt so upset by the consultation that had taken place and would encourage them to make another appointment to see their own GP and discuss this further.

We always welcome patient feedback and if something does go wrong are keen to work with the patient to resolve the issue.

Please contact Kat Hampson Operations Manager Tuesday - Friday 7.30 - 4.00 so she can discuss your concerns in more detail.
