"Disappointing. I would never go willingly to this..."

About: Broomfield Hospital

What I liked

Some of the staff were well mannered and considerate of the paitents needs.

What could be improved

My father was admitted to the hospitals Felstead ward where he able to look after himself. When his situation detoriated he was moved to ICU where the majority of his care was good however basic standards were not me. He was in a coma for 3 weeks but received very little personal hygene care.

Once out of ICU and back on Felstead, the standard of care declined. Members of staff were rude, sometimes offensive, My father was left alone for long periods of time with the alarm button tied up out of reach. When my father could reach the alarm he could go for hours without anyone responding becuase of the dire lack of staff. At times there were 2 nurses and 2 aux members of staff looking after 36 people. The staff that were on shift were too busy to look after those who were not at deaths door. Many members of staff were unable to communicate with paitents, talking in medical language or just being inconsiderate with what they said, how they said it and when. It is very much the case that the standard of care and level of communication is dependant on which member of staff you speak to and if they are at the start or end of thir shift.

Anything else?

It is a shame they have spent all that money on making it look like a service station with all the shops but are unable to standardise the level of care they provide to their paitents.
