"Too easily forgotten about"

About: Royal Preston Hospital

Our son was referred in relation to sudden illness recently. Whilst we were initially seen relatively quickly by the triage and doctor it was then only the doctors that seemed to remember we were there. We were given our own room whilst investigations were taking place and I can't fault the two doctors who saw our boy and took his bloods etc and gave him his diagnosis and prescription.

If only the rest of the team had remembered we existed.

We were on the ward from 12pm through to 1830 and our boy was never offered food or even a drink we had to fend for ourselves. After the doctor had given the prescription it took and hour and a half for the team to give us the medication so we could go home and that only happened after we pointedly walked up and down the corridor and the doctor clocked that we were still there. When we finally got the medication we were told they'd forgot because a nurse had gone on their break and that we should have chased them for it. It's not our responsibility to solve your staffing issues, whilst I'm all for taking action ourselves we don't know how busy you are (it didn't appear particularly busy) and as both my wife and I work in the care sector we understand how it can be busy and people chasing doesn't always help. But to learn we were waiting an hour and a half because one person took a break it was frustrating to say the least. When we then said he hadn't been offered any food and had missed his tea we were only then finally offered something, we'd probably still be there if we'd accepted...

Could we ask you to consider contacting our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01772 522972 so that we have an opportunity to look into this further for you?

PALS can be contacted Monday to Friday from 9 - 4pm and there is a voicemail facility for out of hours.
