"How fortunate we are to have this exceptional care"

About: Borders General Hospital / Day Procedure Unit Borders General Hospital / Planned Surgical Admissions Unit Borders General Hospital / Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic

(as the patient),

I wanted to write to express my thanks and admiration for the care provided for me when I attended the BGH to undergo a laparoscopic cholocystectomy in July 2018.

From my first arrival until I was wheeled to the front entrance to return home I was put entirely at ease by the friendliness, professionalism and efficiency of the response I received from all the staff who looked after me during my stay in PSAU. I never felt at all uncomfortable or awkward, and any apprehension that I might have had prior to my procedure was dispelled very quickly. I want to acknowledge the patience and consideration of the nursing and reception staff (particularly Tracey, Carol and Rosie) in PSAU, and also the comprehensive, frank and thorough way in which I was advised about my surgery by Mr Mustafa and Dr Aldridge prior to being taken to Theatre.  I must also express my gratitude to the Theatre nurses (unfortunately I cannot recall their names), who received me and made the experience feel very easy. I also appreciated the informative way in which Dr Gunn, Dr Aldridge and Mr Mustafa took the time to sum up the outcome of my operation (which I understand turned out to be rather more challenging than had been anticipated). Further thanks are also due to Tracey for sitting with me very patiently during my discharge when I briefly became a little unwell, and for taking me to the main entrance in a wheelchair as I was leaving.

It's easy to forget how fortunate we are to have this exceptional standard of care available to us from the NHS in the Borders, and I feel very privileged to have had such a good experience. I'm now recovering and feel very confident about the outcome of my surgery.

Many thanks again and regards to all,

Thank you very much for your kind words which have been passed on to our surgical team. It is gratifying for all our staff to know that their efforts are appreciated and that our patients feel safe and well cared for.

From my point of view as manager of the unit it is also reassuring to know that the systems we have in place continue to provide a quality service and a high standard of care with our patients at the centre of the process.
