"treating people with aspergers synrome wrong"

About: General practices in Lothian

(as the patient),

I have aspergers syndrome and and feel that the receptionists at my local surgery are very rude to me and push my mood to low levels.  they are not helpful with simple things that I know they can do as part of their job.  One person there has been helpful always though  but the majority of the receptionists in Wester Hailes.   Doctors are not helpful while I m struggling with talking to them.  there is no excuse for over and over again being rude to someone who is battling mental health and disability    The staff there make me feel very low for about a week as my moods are very sensitive    I watch them and they are not like this with others.    I wish Aspergers wasnt a hidden disability    cant they be trained by people to be helpful and friendly to disabled people?  I struggle where most people wont.  all I want is for them not to be rude and understanding of my condition

Good morning,

Thank you very much for taking the time to contact us through Care Opinion.

I am so sorry and saddened to read your post and I would like to apologise for the hurt and upset this, most understandably, is causing you. What you have described is most certainly not the service we strive to achieve.

If you feel able, I would encourage you to speak to the Practice Manager directly so that they can look into the concerns that you have raised as l am sure that they will be disappointed to hear of your experiences. Alternatively, the Patient Advice and Support Service is an independent service which provides free and confidential information, advice and support to patients: Tel: 0800 917 2127 or Email: pass@cas.org.uk They can support you to make a complaint, if this is something that you wish to do and send to our Patient Experience Team:

Email: feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk

Post: NHS Lothian, Waverley Gate, 2-4 Waterloo Place, Edinburgh, EH1 3EG

In the meantime, please be assured that I will pass on all of your feedback to the Practice Manager at Wester Hailes GP Practice to ensure that this matter is looked into. I have also discussed your feedback with the Head of Patient Experience.

Thank you very much again for getting in touch and once again, I am truly sorry that this has been your experience.

Very best wishes to you.

Pamela

Good Afternoon,

I do hope this finds you well.

Wester Hailes Medical Practice have confirmed that the concerns you raised have been discussed with their clinical team. The GPs were sad to hear that a patient has been treated in this manner and how this has made you feel. They have stated that all of your feedback has been taken on-board, and they sincerely hope that you do not experience a repeat of this again going forward when you attend or make contact with the practice.

They would be very happy to discuss your concerns if you feel able to do so, or if at any point in the future you feel that you are not receiving the care that you should receive. Alternatively, you can contact the Patient Experience Team at NHS Lothian Tel: 0131 536 3370 or provide us with further feedback via Care Opinion.

Wester Hailes Medical Practice also have their own online ‘ask my GP’ service. There is more information about this on their Practice website here http://www.westerhailesmedicalpractice.co.uk/info.aspx?p=7

Please be assured that your feedback has also been shared with Service Manager for Primary Care who will also look into this matter further.

Kind regards,

Pamela
