In 2017, I was first referred to the orthotics service for leg measurements to provide me with suitable shoe accessories. This appointment went ok and I was told to return one week later at 9am and to knock on the door, which I did. When i knocked on the door the orthotics staff member told me to enter the room however when i did the staff member responded with a stern voice saying ‘who asked you to come in?’. I felt this was instantly a bad attitude towards myself, although i just followed instructions.
I let this slide and never really thought much of it at the time however when I had to further contact them a few weeks again regarding repairs for one of my splints I had a further bad experience with a staff member. This time I had to contact by phone to ask for assistance in what I do regarding the repair and I felt the staff on the other end of the line were rude, blunt and almost like I was unconvincing them by phoning. I understand they may have been busy but it made me feel like I was worthless and surely it doesn’t take much for them to simply say ‘can I call back later?’I phoned again to enquire when I should expect the part to be delivered as I am virtually housebound in the mean time and again was met with a horrible, degrading tone as if i was putting them out.
One occasion could simply have been an off day but now after every recent interaction it is getting to the point where i am scared to phone and feel this is a wider issue that perhaps needs addressed.
"Let down by recent interactions"
