After being passed from pillar to post regarding a gall bladder removal I was referred to St Georges for my initial consultation. I met with the consultant who was extremely empathetic towards me and assured me that the operation would be performed at St Georges and advised due to the pain and stress this is causing me I would be highlighted as an urgent case. I was then surprised when I had a call the next day to book me in for my pre op for the following week...I was very happy but thought this is too good to be true!
I had my pre op, passed my pre op and 12 weeks later I am still waiting for the surgery. I telephoned the adult admissions and highlighted that I hadn't heard from them regarding a surgery date and was told there are 50 patients awaiting the same surgery before me and the best thing would be transfer to Kingston to have the operation done. I am reluctant to do this as the consultant at St Georges advised me to stay at St Georges as they are happy to operate on patients with a high BMI. A nurse spoke to me and advised that 12 weeks is the standard time frame for a normal waiting list patient and an urgent case should have been seen before that time frame.
