"Timeous and appropriate care following TIA"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Stroke

(as a service user),

Following weakness and sensation loss in 1 arm I was seen very quickly by my GP in Aberdeen who started some medications and referred me to the Stroke clinic where I was seen 3 days later ( it was over a weekend) At the clinic I was seen and assessed by a doctor and sent for a CT head scan and a scan of my carotid arteries. The doc told me not to come back to the clinic that day I would however be contacted if my scans were not ok. He diagnosed a probable TIA. I went home a bit shell shocked with no other information. I do know there is a time and place for information and for some it might not be then. However, I needed and wanted it. It was 6 weeks before I saw the stroke nurse who was great but late. Fortunately I went online to find information. I am a retired health professional and I found all that very hard. How must it be for the non informed patients? Such a life changing event- one stop clinic great no information / support at that time poor.
