We attended the clinic because my child had injured her foot.
Conscious not to waste precious NHS resource, we left it 3 days to see if it just settled down by itself.
It did not so we attended minor injuries. I phoned Haslemere Minor Injuries for advice on possibly needing an X-ray; even though it was 3 hours until closing time I was told that unless I brought my child in immediately (which I couldn’t l) she would probably be turned away as they close at 5pm.
The receptionist seemed very keen not to help and for us to go elsewhere.
I left it another day and turned up with my child as soon as the hospital opened.
The receptionist was cold and unfriendly but the GP we saw was perfectly pleasant.
We were told by him to return if the foot was still hurting after another week.
So we duly returned to our GP, spoke with him first on the phone then had an appointment.
He said it should be X-rayed.
We returned today and I was treated very rudely by the receptionist at the X-ray department.
Like other reviewers, I was made to feel like an inconvenience who they could not wait to get rid of even though I had a paper request for an X-Ray signed by the GP and marked “casualty”. The receptionist concerned was rude and unpleasant in her questioning, although the lady who took the X-ray was pleasant.
Receptionists here undoubtedly have a difficult job (I have done the job myself in the past in a different location) but they should remember that a smile and kindness goes a long way.
People are there because they (or their child) need help and the very least they can do is treat us with dignity and respect.
