My 5 year old attended PCH ED department at the weekend with what turned out to be a nasty fracture of her arm.
When we attended we were rushed passed triage by a doctor who assessed her quickly and requested imaging. The imaging was complete promptly and with the upmost care and attention for a distressed child and parent. We returned to ED and again were assessed quickly and listed for surgery. We were involved with her care at all times and she was listed for surgery. All clinicians were professional and caring in their approach.
When entering anasesthetics the anaesthetist and his team were very reassuring and professional. Within minutes she was asleep and comfortable for theatre.
Recovery care and handover was excellent and we returned to the Amazon ward. This unit is well staffed with a range of professions to support families and patients. It was a real relief to keep my 2 year old happy whilst we visited his sister who also enjoyed the activities presented to her. Pain was well controlled and the food was gobbled up by a happy girl.
The surgeon was very professional and caring in his feedback giving us informed and realistic expectations and a clear plan for her discharge.
Having worked in healthcare for 10 years I understand the importance of patient feedback both positive and negative to drive up quality of services and performance.
My experience of these departments and services is outstanding. Thank you.
