"I was well looked after"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I attended A & E at University Hospital Wishaw with a rash on my arms and my lips swollen.   After an hour I saw the triage nurse who took an extensive medical history.   I was then asked to go back to the waiting area.   After an hour a Locum Consultant took me in to a room and examined my rash.   I was then taken through to the cubicle area and given tablets to take with the instructions that if I felt unwell at all to shout on a nurse.   After an hour the consultant came back.   The rash was clearing but my lips were still swollen.   I was advised  that I should stay in the department  longer so that  I was near resus.   It was at this point I realised how serious it was but up until that point the staff had kept me calm.   the swelling eventually subsided and I was allowed home with steroids and antihistamine.   I had an allergic reaction to another medication.   The consultant advised me to phone an ambulance if I felt unwell at all.     I would like to say that although the department was really busy I was well looked after by the staff.

Dear runningxr75,

I am sorry to read about your worrying time having presented to ED with an allergic reaction. This must have been frightening for you.

I am delighted to read your comments and how you felt that you were cared for by the staff.

I will ensure your positive experience and nice comments are fed back to the staff.

I hope you are recovering well.

Best wishes

Andy
