"Ward 21 - outstanding"

About: Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust

I was in Ward 21 from 13th - 22nd June. I was treated for ovarian cancer and unfortunately had to have major surgery. The care, support and attention that I was given during this time was second to none.

This care was also extended to my family who were supported too by the doctors and nursing staff during this difficult time.

Each and every member of the team on Ward 21, no matter what their role may be, always made me feel like no request, no matter how small, was a problem for them. This is a busy ward and staff work long hours but they were always bright and cheerful; despite feeling really unwell and being in pain I also managed to laugh and this was down to the amazing characters on this ward.

This is a time when we are at our most vulnerable and I can only describe the staff as ‘angels’ who go about their day, taking care of you. I’m not used to being reliant on others but the staff were so thoughtful and considerate, they made it far less stressful than it could have been.

I thanked the staff when I left but really ‘thank you’ just doesn’t do it justice. We are so fortunate to have such an outstanding service in the North East and to have our NHS.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice comment about the hospital and we're pleased to hear that you felt supported through what must have been a difficult time. We hope you're feeling better and we'll pass on your comments to the staff on ward 21.
