"Can't complain about experience in City Hospital"

About: City Hospital / Maternity care

Majority of my friends had a bad labour experience in this hospital, however I didn't had much choice and booked in to City Hospital. Because it was my first child and I was overdue for 15 days, I was induced. I went there for 8am and was given bed.Medications were putted at 11am and was left only to wait. Other lady who came with me started labour already after few hours, and I was still waiting. Happily water broke at midnight, I was nicely checked by the MV, making sure baby is ok. Stronger contractions started at 9am and by the time my partner was allowed to come to the ward, I was already dilated 4cm. Transfer to labour ward was very quick, they had room ready. And even I though I was induced (originally was planning to give birth in the water at midwifery unit), midwives still considered my birth plan and after check up making sure me and baby are ok, let me to continue in the water. However after being an hour in the water my blood pressure started raising and MV didn't took a chance, transferred on the bed. MV also never took a chance of me to tear and made a cut. After another hour I already had my baby in my arms.

We had enough time shower and prepare for the night back in maternity ward.

We still had to stay in hospital for the further 5 days, even ward was very busy. But the doctors and MV made sure that we are perfectly fine to go home as we had issues with latching on.

After all of this experience I was happy with everything, even though I was exhausted as in the ward were 14 beds and all full, so no piece or rest. But the care and staff was great, even the dinner lady was so nice, making sure every single mum is eaten 😊

The only bad thing I noticed was that some of the staff didn't treated nicely those mums, who wasn't speaking English.

Many congratulations on the birth of your baby and thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am pleased that you had a positive experience for your first baby. I am sorry to hear that you felt that mothers who don’t speak English aren’t treated as well. I am eager to address this with our teams to further improve our services. If you would like to help us to do this, please contact Rachel Carter, our Director of Midwifery: Rachel.carter14@nhs.net. Thank you once again for sharing your reflection on our care. Kind Regards, Toby Lewis, Chief Executive.
