My Wheelchair

(as a service user),

It has been broken a lot.       My OT has been trying to help.   The chair makes me uncomfortable.   I have been waiting for my electric chair a long time.   I have the electric base but it has no seat. It makes me feel really annoyed.     My friend and I started to learn to drive  together and he has his chair already and I am still waiting.   That made me very sad as he is now whizzing around school and I need to wait for someone to help me.

Dear MRD1,

Thank you for contacting Care Opinion about the problems with getting your powered wheelchair. I am sure that you realise that the Wheelchair Service tries to set up every person’s wheelchair to suit the person who is using it. This can be straightforward or more complicated depending on what the wheelchair needs to do, what suppliers we are buying the parts from and whether all of the parts fit together well. This can sometimes mean that the more complicated systems take longer to get working well, especially when we have to custom-make some of the parts.

If you would like a personal update on where we are with your wheelchair and when we hope to have it ready for you then you can contact the service directly using email (grampian.wheelchairs@nhs.net) or call the department on 01224 556841 and ask to speak to the manager Ian Loudon. We are sorry this has taken longer than hoped, we look forward to seeing you at the Wheelchair Service soon and expect to see you whizzing around with your friend.
