"Treated civilly and with compassion by Ashley House"

About: Ashley House

(as a service user),

I started drinking daily approx five years ago after being diagnosed with emphysema.

Since December 2010 I started having problems with my breathing, subsequently my alcohol intake increased. On visiting my doctor who asked the usual questions re: smoking and drinking, I answered honestly and was given the number for Ashley House, Community Alcohol Team.

I was introduced to my counsellor Maureen, who over the weeks has spoken to me civilly, with compassion, and good advice. I have subsequently greatly reduced my intake of alcohol, in fact I have cut the brandy completely. I am having at least 2 days alcohol free per week and I am not suffering any side effects so far.

I am still seeing Maureen and hope, in time, to control my intake.
