"Confused about choose and book"

About: Devon Access and Referral Team (DART) Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

(as the patient),

I received a letter to "choose and book" my appointment at RD&E hospital, only to be told what the waiting times were and that I would receive an appointment in due course.

I am now totally confused. What exactly does choose and book mean? I could not book online either. And so I have no idea when i will be going to the hospital. As I live 45 miles away this is not very helpful.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us about your experience of using our service.

In answer to your question, Choose & Book is the national computer system that is used to book the initial appointment with a specialist. Patients are asked to phone us at DART so that we can use Choose & Book to offer a choice of hospitals and appointment dates and times. Unfortunately, some of the busier services can become fully booked from time to time, and we are unable to offer a choice of appointment date and time. When this happens, we pass the patient’s information on to the hospital of their choice and the hospital will contact them when more appointments become available. You will receive an appointment from the Royal Devon & Exeter as soon as they are able to offer one and the letter will also have a number to phone if the appointment they offer you is unsuitable.
