"My experience at Aeu"

About: Kingston Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was taken by ambulance on Sunday pm with chest pain, I was attended to straight away. After about four hours it was decided that I could be discharged. However later in the evening I once again had to be admitted as the pain was unbearable, all relevant test were carried out and I was admitted to the assessment ward. Everybody was so helpful and kind even from the cleaner upwards, special mention for I think they are health care assistants who were exceptional. I was diagnosed and eventually discharged on the Wednesday. An appointment was made to attend Aeu outpatients on Monday, this is where it gets a bit muddled, it just said attend between 9-10 and blood test would be needed. I incorrectly went for a blood test, then had difficulty finding where to go from there. After quite a while I was called for a blood test, I explained that I had one, but volunteered to have another as they weren't sure they would be able to locate the first blood test in time for doctor to assess, then an X-ray eventually a doctor. I think this system could be improved if all the tests were done first and that was made clear also more signage would be useful or indicate in more detail on the discharge letter the procedure. This took 6 hours which could have been shortened if blood,X-ray and ecg were done at the beginning. I was very happy for all the care I received and would not let this effect my review, thankyou to all staff involved. Vivienne Stephenson
