"Rude receptionist"

About: Priory View Medical Centre

Telephone today couldn't get an appointment explained it was a on going muscle issue which was set of again due to a car accident plus I suffer from another illness which means I can't take ibrophen and I'm not sure what I can take. Was advises I'd get a call back. When I received the call back was advised I would be charge £21.30 to see a doc as it because of a road accident. I told the receptionist this is disgusting. Which at that point she hung the phone up. Now I'll have to attend a&e and waste emergency care to those who most need it. Very disappointed.

Thank you for your comments. I believe our receptionist did try to explain why there was a charge for a GP visit after a Road Traffic Accident. The British Medical Association state that under the Road Traffic Act 1988 the first doctor to provide emergency treatment to the victim of a road traffic accident is entitled to charge a fee. The fee can be recovered under all motor insurance policies. GP practices do charge for other services such as travel vaccinations, sick notes in the first week of sickness and are part of a suite of services that are not covered under the NHS.

More detailed information can be found on https://www.bma.org.uk/advice/employment/fees/emergency-treatment in relation to this particular fee.

Should you need an appointment that is not related to the road traffic accident, then no charge would apply. If you want to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact the Practice Manager.

The receptionist confirms that she did not and would not ever hang up on any patient.
