What can I say?
I have not had many experiences of hospitals but my recent stay in the Pilgrim has to go down as one of the best and I doubt would have been much better had I gone private.
The professionalism shown by all the staff, from ambulance crew, porters and auxiliaries through to nursing staff, registrars and consultants was spot on in both wards.
In particular the ward staff were totally amazing in the care and respect given to this admittedly cantankerous old codger allayed any fears I may have had about my condition.
They even had the good manners to laugh at my jokes.
If I had to nit-pick there are two points I would highlight: 1) A system of being able to order newspapers would be most welcome.
With no TV or radio on ACU you are totally cut off from the world with no way to keep up with world or local affairs. 2) The meals served were TOO good and I was saddened to find on my return home that I had gained a couple of pounds!
All in all, while I would have preferred not to have been admitted, my stay at the Pilgrim was nothing if not amazing.
Well done to all concerned.
