I was told to attend the Day Unit at 8 am. I was thoroughly questioned by a nurse for an hour. Some questions were ridiculous e.g. was I at risk of developing CJD. A blood sample was taken, even though I had been advised to have one taken at my local Health Centre the previous day, and it was sent to the lab for coagulation testing. It was to be tested"urgently". Two and three quarter hours later I was told that the previous day's sample had been insufficient and that the recent sample had haemolysed. The lab did not tell the day unit about this even though the sample had been requested to be tested urgently. Another sample was taken and sent to the lab. I was told that I would be transferred to the room where the biopsy would be performed under ultrasound guidance at 12.45. I was transferred at 1.15 and the biopsy was performed without incident. I was transferred back to the Day Unit at about 1.45 and kept lying flat for a couple of hours before being discharged.
There seemed to be plenty of nurses in the unit but they seemed to spend most of their time filling out numerous forms. There were very few patients in the unit.
