"No response from Queens Medical Centre"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

After receiving a referral from my optician, I have been trying to get in touch with Queens Medical Centre in order to set up an appointment at the cataract clinic. I called on Monday and went through to the answerphone, where I left my name and number. It's now Thursday, and I've not heard back from them at all.

I am very concerned about whether or not I'm going to get an appointment, as I've had friends who've struggled to make them due to information going missing. This issue has been ongoing since August when the referral was made, and I've been let down already several times by poor communication between healthcare staff. For instance, my GP said they had not received the referral letter from the optician, despite it having been sent sometime before. I think communication could be much improved.

Dear kayak113

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback regarding your recent referral concerns relating to Queen’s Medical Centre /Ophthalmology.

For a patient in the Principia area the process for referral to ophthalmology is as follows:

Referral letter from your optician goes to your GP who checks the referral, includes this on your GP notes and sends the referral through to the Clinical Assessment Services (CAS), the CAS then triage the referral if appropriate to the designated service and contact the patient to offer a choice of appointments either with a community provider or the hospital.

If your referral was made in August as stated in your feedback you may want to check with your optician that this referral has been sent through to your GP practice.

I hope this clarifies the process for you and that your appointment is soon organised for you.

Kind regards
