"I would not recommend"

About: Queen Charlotte's Hospital / Maternity

After having a wonderful pregnancy and birth of my twins at the old Queen Charlotte’s hospital, I decided to go back there for my third pregnancy in 2016.

The anti natal care was overall good but I did find the sonographers rude and on one occasion made me cry due to not being able to see my baby as I’m a bit overweight that she won’t be able to do the checks etc.

They also made me take 2 Glucose tests which are horrendous because they are always running late so you are there hours paying extortionate parking prices. They kept saying my son is massive a 10 pound something baby and that I might have gestational diabetes, which I didn’t.

The birth was a planned c section as I have had 2 previously and that was all good. He wasn’t that big after all at 8lbs 6oz.

The ward was ok but the staff didn’t care at all, one even moaned saying I should complain about lack of staff. Another one didn’t listen to what I had to say. My son was constantly on my breast and every time I removed him he screamed al day and all night and I knew he wasn’t feeding right. After crying all night I asked one of the nurses could he have a tongue tie as I was crying and googling all night and she told me no you would be able to see it. She didn’t even look in his mouth. When they discharged me the next day not even a goodbye they just kept asking me when my hubby was coming to pick us up. It was the worst experience I have ever had.

So after that i spent a week at my mother in laws and then moved to Devon where we had just bought a house. My new Devon midwife looked at my son breastfeeding and instantly checked his mouth and told me she suspected a posterior tongue tie and referred me. My son also had lactose intolerance as I have lactose intolerance and needed special milk. The difference in care was amazing.

I would not recommend this Hospital if you have a straight forward pregnancy if it’s complicated they have some of the best specialists around. I also can’t fault the surgical staff for my c section or my nurse before and after my op.

It really changed my opinion on this Hospital it was my worst pregnancy and they really do t seem to individuals needs and attention. I wouldn’t recommend or ever go back here.
