"Two very different experiences of labour at Antrim Hospital"

About: Antrim Area Hospital

(as the patient),

In 2009 I gave birth to my 1st child in antrim hospital. The pregnancy was pretty easy for me, with just a little morning sickness which left after 5 1/2 months. At my scans, all the staff were extremely friendly and answered any questions that I had. I had an induced labour where I had 3 gels and then eventually was taken to the delivery suite to have my waters broken. My induced labour I found very traumatic as the doctor dealing with me was exactly gentle, but I found him to be more of rough and ready type. I was in labour for 7 hours and had to get the epidural. Lets just say when my daughter arrived i felt so overwhelmed. I also felt like my labour took so much out of me.

In october 2011 I gave birth to my second little girl in antrim. I was so scared leading up to the birth because of my previous expeirence. The midwife there, Theresa Craig, made me feel so relxaed and at ease and I found it to be a much more enjoyable experience. I was induced again and a female doctor made all the difference when breaking my waters. I was in labour for 2hours and 6mins and done it all on gas and air. I was made to feel so proud of myself. Myself and my husband have decided that we will not be having any more children as the pregnancy second time round was pretty rough. I had extreme morning sickness, suspected clot in my lung, bad fainting episodes, lower iron levels, low blood pressure and pelvic arthropthy which resulted in me having to use crutches for 3-4months. Any problems that I had were all taken into account for my care in delivery sutie.

I could not complain about the care I received in the delviery sutite or on maternity ward and many thanks to all the staff involved in my care
