About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

What I liked

During my visits since being diagnosed as having type 2 diabetes i have always been treat very very well by all of the staff from the doctors, nursing staff, and administrators. I have over the years resisted going from oral medication to using the injection method of control, this for 2 reasons. 1) that progress in the research into oral medicines has been prolific since I was diagnosed., I have delayed going over to insulin as there is no going back after moving over. 2) that I had an aversion of having to using the injection method.

Recently the consultant told me that a combination of Metformin and a drug called "Victoza" may be suitable for me. I agreed and I was handed over to the Diabetic Nurse who proceeded to show me how to use the pen type needle, my aversion to injecting myself was very soon overcome and going over to the method I have reduced my weight significantly and am achieving better sugar levels. I am also now using a USB type meter and hope for the day when the department organises the downloading of my results. . I also think that the departments reception is too small, and must impede the efficiency of an already excellent depatment
