"Desogestrel Progestogen-only Contraceptive Pill"

About: General practices in Lothian

(as a service user),

Kirkliston Medical Practice recently moved me over from taking a combined pill to taking this pill. It has been symptom-free for me so far - and the amazing thing is, I don't have periods any more.

Whist I found this quite odd at first (I'm only 35), I soon got to thinking - in this country the use of single-use feminine hygiene  products such as tampons and pads have a huge financial cost, and a huge environmental impact. And yet the potentially period-free pill exists, which I never even knew about. Clearly  it won't work for everyone, but is the NHS attempting to move as many women of child-bearing age onto this pill as possible, in order to help those in poverty and reduce the huge burden pollution is putting on our environment?

Just a thought, but this technology doesn't seem to be that well publicised, it was complete news to me that I could take a tablet that would be equivalently safe and effective to the combined pill, and not have to menstruate.
