"My first A&E experience"

About: Barnsley Hospital / Accident and emergency

I am a 23 year-old male (22 at the time of visiting). I suffered from glandular fever that escalated into quinsy, resulting in a swollen abscess in my throat and leaving me unable to swallow my own saliva.

I visited Barnsley A&E in the evening on a weekday after a referral from a GP. I was seen to rather quickly and had IV fluids attached as I had been unable to drink all day. I was seen to by a doctor after around 1 hour 15 mins who drained my throat abscess, and was put into a bed within 2 hours of me entering a&e.

Overall I was happy with the service I received and the waiting times were not too bad either.
