"Horris sonography experience"

About: Queen Charlotte's Hospital / Maternity

After giving birth to my first child at Queens Charlottes and being extremely pleased with every stage of the procedure, we decided to have our maternity care here for our 2nd baby due in October.

Well... what a disapointing experience so far.

On our 20 week scan our 17 month daughter woke from her nap as we walked in the room, the sonographer was very blunt and said she would need to leave the room if she continued to "make noise" I was also told myself best not to speak, when I spoke to my partner, as it was a " very important scan and I needed to concentratere to be confident she had completed all of the checks I needed her to" Whilst I understand this is true, I feel like a little more tact could have been taken, rather than telling me off like a school child.

We kept the sex a surprise last time, but decided for our 2nd pregnancy we would find out, At the beginning of the scan, I told my partner not to worry if he needed to walk outside to comfort my daughter as we wouldnt fine the sex out until he is back in the room. The response from the sonographer was " yes theres much more important stuff to look at first" whilst perfomring other checks she then randomly disclosed " yes its another girl" and then carried on as if it was just a passing comment.... my partner didnt even hear her, there was no " are you ready to find out now" nothing! truely upsetting that this special moment was ruined for us, and I spent the rest of the evening in tears, wishing we hadnt found out.

as we were leaving I asked where we could get a photo, she printed one for me of babys head... not even a full one.

Im truely upset by the whole experience and am now looking to book another scan elsewhere so we can see our baby again and make it an enjoyable experience. I understand the health of the baby is the most important and there are lots of checks to go over but I still dont see the need to be rude and to have ruined what is meant to be one of the most amazing surprises in life by revealing the sex in such a blaise way! I am now worried for the rest of my maternity care and nervous that the labour will also be an awful experince with unhelpful staff :(
