"Not Fit for Purpose"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

After cutting my chin open and breaking my left distal radius last Saturday (16th), I attended Bolton a&e.. after 3hours and 52 minutes a nurse practitioner cleaned and stitched the open wound on my chin and then an on call orthapeadic surgeon explained that my break wasn’t a pleasant one and urgent surgery is required (within 48hrs). I was also made an appointment on the Wednesday 20th at 10.10 if I hadn’t heard from theatres by this date then to attend this fracture clinic. I turned up at the clinic on the Wednesday at 10am, at 10.55 I still hadn’t been seen. I eventually was called and a orthopedic consultant in brief first of all asked if I was awaiting surgery, then advised he wasn’t the surgeon who would be doing the surgery and he isn’t sure why I’ve come to the clinic, when it’s a specialist upper arm surgeon I need. (Who only works Wednesday’s) I was disgusted at how fast he wanted me out of the room, but nevertheless, I went home in severe pain and utter distrsss. On the Thursday (21st)

I went back to the clinic to have my slab re done as it had come loose and I was in agony. The plaster lady was so rude to me, her professionalism was disgusting, I wish I had taken her name. She spoke about me to the receptionist and unlucky fort her I heard every word, and spoke to me like a piece of dirt on her shoe. (She wouldn’t change my slab either, just put a bandage on too tight instead).

I spoke with the trauma coordinator on the Thursday and the lady advised I am down for surgery next Wednesday (27th) and to await a phone call. At this point I couldn’t take anymore and went to Salford Royal on the Thursday afternoon, I had my surgery on the Friday (the next day) as an urgent surgery due to the loss of circulation and nerve damage I have encountered due to the poor service I received from the Royal Bolton.

An awful experience which has left me with nerve and limb damage.

Horrible hospital and even worse staff.
