"A&E experience"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

I had to take my partner to Cramlington A&E on a Saturday afternoon following an accident at home where he sustained a head injury.

We arrived at the hospital at around 1pm and entered the A&E department. The receptionist was a bit curt and made us feel a bit uncomfortable being there (my partner is initially from Newcastle so hadn't been to a Northumberland hospital before). She made this seem like a problem when it turned out to be fine.

However that is the only negative I can give about the place. From triage we were taken straight through to a private room in A&E. The doctor was in very quickly agreeing a treatment plan and further tests and all of tge staff involved were really friendly, efficient and knowledgeable.

We were really impressed at the process and how quickly everything was done. I've heard mixed reviews about the hospital but I was very impressed

Dear Anonymous,

I imagine you were pretty frightened bringing your partner into hospital with a head injury, and so I’m really sorry that you didn’t get the reception that you were expecting and felt like a nuisance on arrival. Your feedback really matters to us and we will be sure to share it with the team and the reception staff too as a reminder of how important initial impressions are. With your partners consent can you share details ( partner’s name, date of birth and date/ time of visiting the department) so that we can ensure we share it with the appropriate member of staff. Thanks a lot – my email is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk

Although disappointed that we didn’t get it completely right for you, I’m delighted that the care you received in the emergency department left you with a lasting impression of kind, knowledgeable, effective and responsive staff. All head injuries need to be taken very seriously and so I’m very pleased you were seen very quickly and given all the care and support you needed from us. I do hope your partner is doing ok ? Please come back to us if you have any concerns.

With best wishes,

Annie
