"Lack of communication"

About: Trowbridge Community Hospital

My mum had a fall near the shops in Trowbridge last Monday, we were visiting from Taunton in Somerset. I was concerned as she has broken both her wrists before, so thought it best to get her wrist checked out before driving home. We registered her details and the sign said it could be a 3 hour or more wait. Lots of people in the waiting room. We got there about 2.15pm. We waited.... we waited..... we waited. I asked the receptionist if she knew how much longer we might have to wait, mum was in a lot of pain and her fingers had gone numb. She said she had no idea as wasn't really connected to the drs and nurses. I popped my head into the nurses station and asked how much longer mum might have to wait - was told maybe about half an hour. Whilst waiting in the waiting room, another patient did inform us that they don't do x-rays after 4.30pm. At that point we get asked in - the nurse was polite and filled in the forms he needed but then asked mum to come back the next day as x-rays aren't carried out after 4.30pm ! We couldn't believe it to be honest, if we had been told this earlier (and they had seen on mum's notes that we weren't local) would it not have been a good idea to let us know??

I could have driven back to Somerset and gone to Musgrove Park. Anyway, I got mum back to the car and drove back to Somerset - unfortunately feeling rather let down for mum. We went to Yeovil A & E on the way back through and mum was looked after very well, x-rayed and a light plaster put on as she had broken her wrist. We eventually got home about 10pm that evening. Sorry Trowbridge, not impressed. Some communication during our hours of waiting in the waiting room, would have been appreciated.
