"I need an answer to my problem"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Ear, nose and throat

(as the patient),

I had a severe viral infection which affected my ears. I was taken to hospital from my local chemist after pains in my chest and kept in overnight and was diagnosed with atrial fribriulation referred to ent. About a month later got an appointment the consultant was very abrupt and not very helpful. I got a c/t scan which was normal. attended cardiology who where outstanding and got cardio version for my heart attended ENT again the consultant was very pleasant however I still have a blocked ear and tinnitus with no diagnosis and a referral for a hearing aid and discharged. my hearing might not be 100% but I need an answer to my problem as I have had it for nearly 7 months no recommendations for your ent. AFter research I believe I have a blocked eustation tube. the consultant did no more than my GP could have done, that’s why I was referred to a specialist..I will definitely not be looking at this consultant again.

Dear Dangor54

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch. It sounds like you have had a bit of a journey over the past 7 months. I was sorry to hear that your experience in ENT has not been a good one and you have been left with some unanswered questions, I can't begin to imagine how frustrating this must be for you.

I was wondering if I could ask you to get in touch with me, in the hope that we can get your questions answered, in order to do this I will need to ask you a few questions, you can contact me on 01324 566660 or you can email me p.marland@nhs.net.

I have shared your story with the Cardiology Department who I am sure will be so pleased to hear your lovely feedback.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Kindest regards

Pauline

Dear Dangor 54

I am sorry to hear about your problems with a blocked ear and tinnitus. The symptoms must be really frustrating and it sounds as though a hearing aid hasn't helped. I am sure my colleagues in ENT will be disappointed that things haven't gone better for you and I will let them see your comments. If you get in touch with Pauline, who has also replied to you she will be able to work with ENT to get an answer to your question, I'm sure.

As a cardiologist I am really pleased that your experience with the treatment of your atrial fibrillation went well and that we were able to help. I hope things continue to be good from that point of view and I'm grateful for your feedback. I will let the team know. The staff in the cardiology day unit who organise the cardioversion service will be pleased to hear what you have said.

Can I encourage you to get in touch with Pauline and between us we will do our best to answer your questions about your hearing? In the meantime, thanks again for your feedback.

Catherine
