"Left upset, alone and in pain"

About: University Hospital Aintree / General surgery

I attended the Elective care centre yesterday for female sterilisation, I feel the nursing staff where rude, showed no kind of bed side manner what so ever, I also felt I was being judged for the procedure I was having done! After the procedure I can around from the general anaesthetic and felt quite sore and I was given pain relief, when I was moved to the recovery ward I felt really sleepy and uncomfortable and due to the pain relief was really drowsy, the nurse who was looking after me was rude and unsympathetic, and wouldn’t allow me to sleep, she kept insisting that I drink which I was doing, I kept telling her how much pain I was in, and after a lot of hufffing and puffing she reluctantly went to get me more pain relief, she then told me to get out of bed and get dressed, when I told her I was unable to, she didn’t care, she told me to get in the chair, put my bag next to me and told me to get dressed, she then disappeared and I was left alone in a severe amount of pain struggling to get dressed, and I was extremely upset, another nurse opened the curtains looked at me, it was obvious I was in pain as I was hunched over and I was sobbing, and she did nothing she walked away! I then called my husband clearly upset telling him how much pain I was in, I was right by the nurses station and they could all hear me, some of them even looked over as I was talking and still not one of them asked if I was ok. After about an hour the nurse returned (I think she had been on a break) I asked her if she could help me get to the toilet, again after a lot of huffing and puffing, she reluctantly helped me along, when I got back to my bed she told me that if I was in that much pain then I needed to stay in, plus the fact that I was unable to pass urine properly, another nurse came over and told me that I would have to be transferred to the Liverpool Women’s hospital I agreed and off she went, she then returned to tell me that she had called an ambulance and it would take three hours and that I would then have to sit in the emergency department waiting room, I expressed that I was unable to do that and that I couldn’t sit in the chair for three hours to which she said “I suppose you can get back on the trolley”, which led to another nurse giving me dirty looks because she had just remade the bed! Whilst I was waiting for the transfer I heard another nurse talking about her patient who was two beds down from me that was also in a lot of pain and unable to pass urine, and she was phoned a paramedic ambulance to take her to the women’s straight away! I would like someone to explain to me why I was treated differently to other patients, why I was left alone and in pain for so long, and why I was treated like an inconvenience? I will be taking this further!
