Recently I was refused an appointment at my GP. I was informed that my name had been removed from the GP register. I am unsure how this happened. I have a long-term condition which requires regular review and daily medication. I was advised I needed to go into surgery in person to re-register. This was difficult with working full time.
I have been speaking with admin staff who were very helpful and understanding of my situation. I visited surgery yesterday as was off work for a hospital appointment. Unfortunately the staff member I usually speak to was not available and I spoke with another member of staff. I felt that this member of staff was extremely unprofessional, spoke to me in a curt and frankly rude manner. They refused to listen to my situation, constantly speaking over me and failing to consider my perspective. Their tone and language was completely unnecessary. They clearly see themselves as expert and people who come into surgery for help as inferior. As a professional person who is in charge of the practice I would expect much higher standards. They certainly are not setting good standards for their colleagues. Speaking loudly and interrupting people, telling them they are wasting their time and providing their own opinions as to patient symptoms in an open and unconfidential space is highly inappropriate and requires training to address this pattern of behaviour.
So disappointed someone in this position can be lacking such self-awareness and integrity.
