"Appointment cancellation"

About: Stonehouse Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

My mum had a referral from medical imaging to dermatology for a mole on her face.  The letter came just one day after the photos were taken which makes me think it’s serious and needs to be seen to.  Two days before the appointment, it was cancelled.

In the letter it states that me missing an appointment is a £136 cost to the nhs. What is the cost of a patient's health and life to the nhs when my mum is now back on a waiting list to be seen by which time this mole may be worse or untreatable?? I think this service to patients is shocking. I feel like these days there is no regard for us.

Dear Poppy81

I'm really sorry that your mum's dertmatology appointment was cancelled. Cancelling patient appointments is always a last resort for us as we know the impact that this can have on patients and families.

In order for us to look into your mum's individual case, can your or your mother please contact Melanie MacLean, Patient Affairs Manager, 01236 713065, Melanie.MacLean@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk with your mum's details and we'll look into this.

Once again my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and obvious distress that this has caused.

Best wishes

Fraser McJannett
