"Fracture Clinic appointment to take 15 day..."

About: Basildon University Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

After fracturing hand while away from home was told to make an appointment to Fracture Clinic via GP which was done within the standard recommended 72 hours from injury to be seen.

No appointment was forthcoming so on phoning the Clinic, a week after injury, the referral was found and an appointment made to be seen 8 days later!

My concern is that was my referral seen by doctor who would not have seen x-rays? I was told any concerns to attend A&E when the correct pathway is follow up in Fracture Clinic within 72 hours reason being that fractures require early intervention to prevent complications etc.

We are sorry that you have had cause to raise concern regarding the delay in the fracture clinic appointment.

We would encourage you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01268 394440 or email pals@btuh.nhs.uk in order that they can take more details from you and investigate your concerns further with the fracture clinic.

If you do decide to make contact with PALS, please let them know that you have posted comments on the NHS Choices website.

Thank you.
