"A&E out of hours"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

Attended a&e at hairmyres hospital and waited in a&e approx an hour when my son was then called through to triage to assess his ankle injury. He was then seen by a nurse who asked him if he had taken pain killers to which he had, then asked his pain score then informed us minor injuries closed at 10 pm. and he would need to return the next morning. I was disillusioned about his treatment as nurse did not even look at his ankle and I was under the impression that a triage nurse should assess the patients injury before making any decision on the patients treatment.

Dear J12318

Thank you for sharing your concern regarding triage assessment of your son’s ankle injury. I would expect appropriate examination to ensure that your son’s injury was suitable to be redirected until the morning and apologise if you felt this was not carried out. I would like to review your son’s presentation and therefore would be extremely grateful if you could contact patient affairs on 01355 585325.

It is important that we learn and act on all concerns raised and I am keen to explore the details of your son’s visit to ensure we provide the most safe and effective care at all times. Again I apologise that you feel disillusioned with the service. I hope to hear from you soon and wish your son a speedy recovery.

Thank you

Lise
