"Accident and Emergency department"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

My doctor sent me to Lincoln hospital as I had three angina attack’s, I am seventy eight years old my wife who was with me is seventy two, we were seen by the triage nurse who took an ECG with in two hours then told to wait back in the department. We sat there until eleven before seeing a doctor, twice I went and asked how long we will be as we had not had anything to eat and my husband is diabetic. We had been in the department since four in the afternoon and my husband needed to eat. The receptionist went and spoke to the doctor in major side then came back and told me he must not eat and only drink a little. When we saw the doctor he could not understand why we were told that. He told us where to go to get a sandwich and told to go to the major side and ask for room twelve. Once in there we sat on two hard chairs until seven in the morning. The nurses were good when I asked if we could have a cup of tea they brought us tea and biscuits. Fifteen hours we had sat on hard chairs waiting to know if we were going to go home or they were going to admit my husband. At seven o’clock my husband finally got on a bed and saw a doctor. Once the doctor saw him I could not fault his treatment they got him to the EAW ward and very quickly into the cardiac ward and his treatment was excellent. But I think a little more care at first in the accident and emergency department should have been given. For us it was a horrible experience one we would dread if ever we were told we had to go to hospital.

Dear Poppy jet,

I am sorry for the delay you experienced on your recent visit to A&E, the department has been exceptionally busy which has unfortunately led to long waits to see the doctors and for patients waiting for a bed. We are sorry that there was not a bed for you to lie on whilst you were waiting and for the discomfort this caused.

I will be sharing your concerns with the team as I must apologise that you were advised that you should not eat. The department does have a supply of snacks for patients and I am sorry there was such a delay in you receiving them.

Karen Hansord – A&E Sister
