Can I start by saying salford royal is my local hospital me and my family have been treated here so many times and always been treated well and received good care. But in May this year I was taken ill due to having a reaction to some medication I was given by my dentist
I was brought into a/e by ambulance with my husband and my son n daughter followed as they were worried about me. On arrival at a/e I was put into a room and seen by a nurse who took some details and explained that a dr would be along to see me etc. As she left the room my daughter was waiting outside the door to see and hear the nurse roll her eyes and laugh say to another nurse when ask what have you got in she replied one with a head ache.. the same nurse then returned to me to put cannula in my arm, I explained straight away I have trouble with my veins been small to which she replied oh we'll see. To cut story short if took 4 nurses and 9 attempts to get cannula in.
I felt if was like a competition who could succeed first.
I can't tell how upset and stressed I was as I have a phobia to needles .Can I just say the dr who dealt with me was lovely and caring to my situation. After returning home
I noticed very bad bruising at the sites of where the cannula had been inserted. One site on back of my left hand was very swollen and painful. After 5 says of if getting worse I went to see my gp to be told it was tissue infection caused by probably a over sized cannula been forced into small vein. The infection went up to my wrist I had to taken antibiotics for a week to clear . I feel
I wasn't taken seriously when I explained I have small veins, and after her first attempt she should have sort someone with more experience .
"Disappointed with a/e nurse"
