I am 77 years old and I need a knee replacement and went to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and was advised by my surgeon to have a knee called a PFC knee replacement. I waited a long time and didn’t feel he had much empathy for me so I went for a second opinion and saw two surgeons who also work at the hospital - both used different knee replacements one was a computer generated implant and the other was another company completely. The government has announced £300m a week for the NHS - this is great but why doesn’t the NHS get a bit more efficient and maybe it wouldn’t need this funding. Why can’t the surgeons agree on one knee replacement, rather than 3? The waiting time in my clinic on the NHS was so long which wasn’t the case at the private hospital. It’s the same doctors so why can’t the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital just sort out it’s efficiency? It’s a very old hospital but the doctors are the same so doesn’t make sense to me why my experience was so different at two hospitals.
