"Excellent care in hospital but no follow up on..."

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

What I liked

Our son had to undergo 4 operations due to having developed acute compartment syndrome when in Italy. His treatment at Royal Sussex was very good. Staff were accommodating and friendly and we felt he received excellent care over the time he was in orthopaedics.

What could be improved

The follow up has been appalling. Our son has been out of hospital for 7 months now and has not had one follow up appointment to check progress (muscle and blood circulation), this despite the efforts of his GP to refer him back to orthopaedics. His GP advises that he may need to wear a surgical stocking but this must be authorised by the consultant. There appears to be no strategic overview. Please review the mechanisms by which patients are monitored following discharge from hospital.
