"A&E visit"

About: Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust

My 12 yr old son was in A&E last week with a nasty fracture to his arm. On arrival he was in considerable pain but fortunately an ED nurse had come out to call another patient in but spotted my sons distress and took us straight through. Within 10 minutes of arrival my son had been given effective pain relief. Once he was more comfortable we were taken to X-ray where the radiographer was excellent in making sure a difficult procedure involved the minimal movement. Back to the paediatric room where he was soon reviewed by a Dr. Unfortunately due to the severity of the break they were not able to straighten the arm in A&E. A temporary cast was applied again with minimal movement & great care. We were allowed home & returned to Oak Ward the following day. Again my son received excellent care from Ward and operating staff as his arm was manipulated under general anaesthetic. We are grateful to all involved but particularly to the A&E nurse who acted so quickly & professionally to assess & treat my son.

Thank you so much for your positive feedback. Your son obviously needed some complex care in different areas of the hospital and I am so glad that your experience was as good as we aim for.

We will make sure that your feedback is shared with the different teams as they always find this rewarding.
